What is rainwater collector?
Rainwater collector is a part of “Ecoculture system”, it is designed to collect, purify and store rainwater for hydroponics and general washing in greenhouse.
What is Ecoculture System?
Ecoculture system comprises a rainwater collector, solar panels and a greenhouse. It makes use of scarce land and renewable natural resources in Singapore to get high-value products.
The greenhouse also can be a environmentally friendly biology lab.
One ecoculture system model is built on roof top of T1A.
Rainwater + Solar Energy + Greenhouse = High-Value Product
What can we do for the project?
(redesign and assemble the piping)
The ecoculture system model was built by final year student in year 2000 on the roof of T1A.
We have been collecting rainwater from the roof top of the greenhouse. A simple low cost in-house design allows dirt and particles to be discharge and disposed off while collecting the clean water which is then stored in a water tank. Upgrading of the rain water collection system is currently scheduled to improve on the design.
The old system uses a sensor and a pump to help in pumping rainwater to the storage tank, the new system will make used of gavity flow and simple mechanical cleaning devices to eliminate the need for electronic devices and the sensor. The new system can be adapted and installed on any roof top for clean rain water collection.
The project team will learn to use simple fittings and valves to design the rain water system.
